Krista Scott is a certified Fitzmaurice Voicework instructor and an associate professor of voice, speech and acting. She served as the voice/text director for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival’s 2008, 2009 and 2013 seasons as well as Trinity Shakespeare Festival’s 2010 and 2011 seasons, and has also coached voices/dialects for the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., Shakespeare Dallas (where she has also conducted weekend intensive workshops, Dallas Theatre Center, Casa Mañana, Circle Theatre, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Hangar Theatre, Kitchen Theatre, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, and various universities in NY and PA. She is an associate editor for the International Dialects of English Archive (IDEA) website, and is a former a board member and treasurer of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association.
Plays she has directed include the local professional productions of The Heir Apparent at Stage West (co-production with Theatre TCU); Rasheeda Speaking, Funnyman, I and You, Venus in Fur and Exit, Pursued by a Bear at Circle Theatre; I’ll Eat You Last and Mr. & Mrs. Fitch at Amphibian Productions; the Shakespeare Dallas production of The King’s Face (2016 Out-of-the-Loop Fringe Festival), as well as the staged readings of Macbeth and Coriolanus for the Shakespeare Dallas “Complete Works Series.” Other professional productions directed include The Unfortunates at Kitchen Theatre (NY) as well as Two Rooms, The Heidi Chronicles, Steel Magnolias, and A Christmas Carol (MN). University and community productions directed include the Theatre TCU productions of Buried Child, Fiddler on the Roof, The Importance of Being Earnest, Three Sisters, Measure for Measure, How I Learned to Drive, The Beaux’ Stratagem, The Crucible, and The Beauty Queen of Leenane, as well as The Bacchae, Kiss Me, Kate, The Glass Menagerie, Dancing at Lughnasa, Good Night, Desdemona (Good Morning, Juliet), The Waiting Room, The Laramie Project, and The Runner Stumbles.
Among her favorite professional acting roles are Ima in the 2020 internet streamed production of The Immigrant (Theatre Three), Vivian Bearing in Wit (2014 Column Award: Best Actress in a Play), and Dottie in Noises Off, (Theatre Arlington), Bertha in Boeing, Boeing! and Cindy in Luna Gale (Circle Theatre), Kim in First Day of School (Amphibian Productions), Inspector Goring in The Game’s Afoot (Water Tower Theatre), the titular role in Hedda Gabler (performed in Cairo, Egypt), Barb in Swimming in the Shallows (Kitchen Theatre) and Rachel in Reckless at The New Tradition Theatre in St. Cloud, MN, which she founded with her husband, Brian Martinson. There, her musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol was produced annually for ten years, as well as for six consecutive years at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Chicago. Other playwriting credits include Jack & the Beanstalk and The Consecourse, which toured elementary and middle schools respectively throughout Minnesota. She has previously been an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, the University of Mississippi, and the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
